Germany’s Finest Wines of the Past Decade – Selected by Gerhard Eichelmann
Over the past 25 years, Gerhard Eichelmann and his team have tasted more than 250,000 wines. In their latest publication, Icon Wines and Grand Crus from Germany (originally published in German as Deutschlands große Weine), they present the highest-rated German wines from the past ten vintages – wines that have consistently demonstrated top quality year after year.
The selection is based purely on the average ratings over ten consecutive vintages, regardless of a wine’s price, reputation, or production volume. Wines that have not yet been produced over ten vintages or only appear sporadically were not considered. This particularly affects rare sweet wines such as Trockenbeerenauslesen, which are now produced regularly by only a few estates, as well as ice wines, which – though still made occasionally – are far too rare to meet the criteria.
For each featured wine, the book offers detailed insights: from its origin and vineyard site, to its vinification style and the evolution of its name over the past 25 years. A true reference work for anyone who wants to explore German wine culture at its finest.
